My SRS (airbag) light is on- and the back windshield wiper stopped working. I changed the fuse and as soon as I turned on the rear wiper- the fuse popped again. So I brought a bigger fuse (it was initially 7.5 and I have a 10 on there now.) When I took it to Honda- they said that the wiper engine had a short and would cost me $350 to fix. However they are not aware that if I use a larger fuse- the wipers still work. They told be that the engine is shot I Don’t believe them because if I use a larger fuse then recommended- the wipers do work. The problem is that the SRS light does not turn off. (Honda said as long as the fuse doesn’t blow- the airbags should be fine.)

So can I install a larger fuse-(perhaps a 12 or 15) and will this still fire off the airbags incase of an accident?

What you are doing gets things working again, but its just not safe. If the wiper motor or wiring has a short in it, it creates heat, and the wires leading to the wiper motor are not set up to handle the amperage that the higer rated fuses are sending trough them. Its only going to get worse, and if you put in a larger fuse, it will get hotter. Eventually you will have a fire. You need to find out what is causing the issue and get it resolved.

I am not sure that the SRS(airbag) system will work with the light on either.

Id take it to another shop if you cant afford the repair work at the honda dealership.

The Dealer wants 100 bucks and I just spent a ton of money at the junlk yard on replacement parts.. What can I do?

I was told that I have to enter dianostic mode and tried the series of steps but I cannot get it to enter the mode. Please help.
Micheal I am updating because before I read your post the air bag went off and I bit my tongue off… Haha just kidding.

Actually I am updating cause what I did to get it to go out just blows me away. I turned the ignition to on and then pressed the door jam light switch 5 times. The flashing light starts flashing weird and then turns out. Then I turned it on and it is gone. No joke.

disconnect the battery first, and if you unplugged the ABS wire and you dont wait at least 5 minutes after disconnecting the battery, you risk the possiblity of the air bag going off. I have seen a mechanic bite off his tongue, when he removed the airbag to do a tiltwheel repair, and plug in the airbag and it went off.
you cannot reset that light without a scan tool. Auto zone can reset the light for free after you do as I explained to reconnect the wire

I have just bought a used Ford 500 and whenever the passenger gets out , a light on the dash lights saying that the passenger side airbag is off lights for 1-2 seconds. Is this abnormal? Does it mean the airbag is always off? Is there a way to turn it off and on?

Yes its normal because the passengers seat sensor sends a signal back to the BCM and SRS system telling it that they have left the seat……..

No you cannot turn it off and on at all……..

I’m pretty sure it means that the airbag won’t deploy when needed. I’m more worried about not passing inspection. Is there a way I can just disconnect the bulb or something or should I just shell out the money and get this problem cleared up? Thanks.

I would get the problem fixed, the airbags could save your life in a severe collision. Even taking the bulb out won’t make it pass inspection. most states pull the error codes from the computer & there is no way to hide the problem from them.

This site tells you exactly what needs to be replaced and how to access them (seat belts & all) on over 3500 cars. It’s a pay site ($14.95 / day), but it’s little money well spent to get the correct answers and to see exactly what you’re after…it uses pictures, not text, so you can see what you’re looking for.
This is the same website insurance companies and body shops use to determine what needs to be replaced.
Good Luck…it’s not too bad of a job & if your state allows it, used parts or parts from ebay should be ok
