Replacement Airbags For your Vehicle

My stearing went out due to A loose bolt, and the stearing wheel could freely spin. I fixed the loose bolt, but now I think I have A bigger problem, The airbag light stayes on,and the horn don,t blow. What do I do

What has happend is that when the steering shaft spun it tightend the Clockspring ribbon and broke it in half! Now you will need to replace the clockspring assembly.

Here’s a wild but educated guess: When the steering wheel was able to freely spin, it twisted off both the horn wire and the airbag wire that run down the steering column. Air bags can kill you before you know it, so take it to a dealer or a professional and tell them your story. It’ll set you back some bucks, but it will be back in working order and you’ll be driving it.

the air bag system is not something that you should play with. i would take it in to the shop and let them deal with that issue. it could be something simple related to the loose bolt on the steering wheel or it could be a serious issue with anything related to that system. since you say that the horn does not work either, id assume that the issue is right behind the horn button.

anytime a mechanic works on the steering for a vehicle, we tie the steering wheel in place to prevent just such and issue. When the wheel spun, it messed up what is called the clockspring. this is basically a lazy susan/electrical connection that allows your wheel to turn but still have a connection path for all on wheel electronics (horn, airbags, radio etc.) Do NOT try to replace this on your own. Take it to a mechanic who knows what they are doing. Otherwise you may end up with a face full of air bag at minimum or broken neck at worst.
