Problems with dash lights began when I changed the battery. Ventilation and air conditioning pushbutton lights started blinking most of the time, A few months later the airbag light started remaining on for a while after engine start. Finally the airbag light is on full time. Is this an airbag deployement risk?

The risk that it will go off when it isn’t supposed to is pretty slim, I’d think. The bigger problem would be that it doesn’t go off when it should. It may be the sensor going bad. Although, on a lot of cars just disconnecting the battery will cause that light to some on. I’d strongly suggest taking to the dealership, though. You really want those things working properly.

  1. Andy T Said,

There is a recall on the clockspring in these vans. The clockspring is the power source to the steering wheel. Go to the dealer and have it checked for recalls, that should fix your problem. Have them recalibrate your HVAC controller to stop the lights from flashing while your there.

The fault probably lies elsewhere in the system, the common on being the seat belt tension sensor, all the sensors in the system would have to fail simultaneously to deploy airbag not very likely, try disconnecting your battery for an hour and reconnecting ,see if it cures the problem.

  4. The Mr. Pine Said,

I have heard that it is as simple as resetting something and a service station can do it. It looks like your battery was really in need of replacement. If your systems have not reset themselves yet you should have the wiring checked. You can check the fuses yourself.
