Replacement Airbags For your Vehicle

i just bought this car yesterday and this morning when i started it i saw that the passenger airbag light is on, is that normal or what? please help, i’m worried.

This is normal. The light is in front of the passenger seat.

Also, the passenger air bag is ‘active’ only when someone is seated. Their weight activates a switch in the seat. This is done so that the air bag does not deploy in an accident if there is no passenger. Saves the vehicle owner about $600.

Check the instrument panel lights when the key is first turned on. The red air bag icon should illuminate for about 2 seconds before turning off. This is the self check and means the system is operating normal.

BTW. The 2006 Corolla is an excellent car and will run just about forever. One maintenance item that you may not know about is the cabin air filter. It is located behind the glove box. I can replace this in about 2 minutes. Do not pay a shop to do this if you can do it yourself.

The OEM tires are good for about 30K miles. First tune up is 100K miles. This car does not have a timing belt (rather a chain) so that too saves a lot on maintenance. Filters and oil are the only regular maintenance items.
Take care,
Marc

I assume the car is still under warranty…better have it checked by the agency, you don’t want that airbag poping wrongly, or even worse not poping when you need it (God forbiden)

That means your airbag computer has detected an error of some kind in the system, so you need to get the error code read out to help the technician locate the problem and restore the full protection that you depend on to save your life in an auto accident. Your Toyota dealer will probably fix it easily with no charge. Check your owner’s manual for additional information on how your airbag protection system works and what the lamp indication means also.

its probably a sensor that’s bad or its not hooked up ,its fairly new so I’m sure it has a warranty on it,and also some of these had the option of cutting the passengers side air bag off, make sure the switch for it is in the on position, this will make the light go on also its just reminding you that its off,but if that doesn’t help take it back to where you bought it from its covered under warranty, and wont cost you nothing for the repair, good luck with it.

On some of the new cars if no one is sitting inside the seat the air bag light will tell you its off and that’s normal, have someone sit there and buckle the belt, it should go off. If it don’t then go to the dealership its under warranty. Good Luck and GOD Bless

If you bought the car at a dealer take it back. If the car is under 36,000 miles it should be covered by totota. There could be a few reasons for this light to be on. One being that the prior owner was in a wreck and the repairs were not properly done. The other is simply a defective part. The toyota should have a warranty on that for 3 years 36,000 miles maybe even more. I suggest you check calling a toyota service department to check on the actually warranty on your car. You really have not too much to worry about except the fact the air bag might not deploy in a collision. It will not go off by itself.

ps. Hani, bob web and Dodgeman do not know what they are talking about, completely wrong answer for this car. They do not recognize that this car has TWO air bag lights.
