Explorer was repaired after crash, but airbag light is on. How do you reset Airbag Module?
Code 33 – The body shop cut a lot of corners. The truck looks great, runs great, but they didnt work out all the bugs. I have read that this code exhibits a bad fitting under the drivers seat.. I will check that out, but still open for suggestions.

unplug the battery for about 30 minutes, if that doesn’t clear it then you’ll have to take it to the dealer.
Side note: your body shop should’ve already done this, which makes me want to believe that you have something wrong with your air bag system and you may need to get it looked at. Take it back to the body shop first and tell them to fix it right.
By Law, They are not supposed to release a vehicle from the body shop with any air bag failures. They have to fix it.

  2. D G Said,

Here’s a site that will explain everything you need to know about airbag systems, airbag lights and resetting the system. It shows you the location of the components and the procedure for diagnosing and/or resetting airbag light. Not all vehicles need everything replaced.
You can check to see if your car is listed here.

Airbagsolutions.com also has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong and how to fix it!
Some vehicle manufacturers let you access and reset systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool.
Although it’s a pay site ($14.95/day), it’s a lot cheaper than going to the dealer

Here’s the page in this site that tells you which cars need a scan tool and which ones can be done without
    I hope I’ve helped you

  3. James Said,

Newer Explorers have an Airbag module that is a one time use unit. After a collision where an airbag is deployed, the module must be replaced and reprogrammed.
